About This Item
1924. TARBELL, Ida M. IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE LINCOLNS. New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1924. First edition. xi, [3], 418 pp. 8vo., blue cloth stamped in gilt and blind, grey dust jacket printed in blue, scarce, good condition with some small chips and closed tears to edges. Cloth has water stains but no interior damage to text. Ida Tarbell recounts the history of Abraham Lincoln's family for seven generations, beginning with Samuel Lincoln, who emigrated from Hingham, England to "Hingham Plantation" in the American colonies in 1637. Publisher's blurb on front of dust jacket: "The rail-splitter, poor white trash stock which has been popularly accepted as the ancestry of Abraham Lincoln does not exist. Miss Tarbell proves it. Not only does she prove it, but she tells the history of the Lincolns in America since the seventeenth century in a most fascinating way." B/w plates, facsimiles. (Stern 4110 ).
