ESTC T203962 where the pagination matches - also another entry at N32423 which seems very similar. Staining to the margins throughout. Ink owner's name to the front free end paper and also the second page of text. Another name scribbled out in ink to the ffep. The outer tip of page 113/4 has been torn away and this affects a couple of lines of numbers. Light browning throughout, some spotting. Ink and pencil writing to the rear end papers. Very scarce early work containing much ephemera relating to this great man Ebenezer Elliott (17 March 1781 – 1 December 1849) was an English poet, known as the Corn Law rhymer for his leading the fight to repeal the Corn Laws, which were causing hardship and starvation among the poor. Though a factory owner himself, his single-minded devotion to the welfare of the labouring classes won him a sympathetic reputation long after his poetry ceased to be read. Elliott's poems often seem naive or archaic to the modern reader who gets the impression that Elliott is struggling to write verse - the more he wrestles, the worse he becomes! In a fragment of autobiography printed in The Athenaeum (12 January 1850) he says that he was entirely self-taught, and attributes his poetic development to long country walks undertaken in search of wildflowers, and to a collection of books, including the works of Young, Barrow, Shenstone… Read More

Hilda (or Hild) of Whitby (c. 614 – 680) was a Christian saint and the founding abbess of the monastery at Whitby, which was chosen as the venue for the Synod of Whitby in 664. An important figure in the Christianisation of Anglo-Saxon England, she was abbess at several monasteries and recognised for the wisdom that drew kings to her for advice.
The source of information about Hilda is the Ecclesiastical History of the English People by Bede in 731, who was born approximately eight years before her death. He documented much of the Christian conversion of the Anglo-Saxons.

The book is a classic and is no longer published. This copy is a collectors edition fit to grace the most distinguished of libraries. A great reference.
