Purple-blue silk boards. DJ/None as Issue. White slipcase w/light surface wea & discoloration, worn upper & lower corners, and price sticker to upper front corner. First published April 4, 1904 as, "One Thousand Kinds of Butterflies," in Kyoto Japan by the publishg house Yamada Unsodo. This is the 1979 copy of the book held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art; printed &nd bound in Japan. Illustrate by/Thames & Hudson, New York, 1979. Accordian fold (printed on one side). Inspired by a group of gaily costumed young women dancing in the countryside, poet Yoshi Zo's friend, woodblock artist Kanzaka Sekka (1866-1942), chose butterflies to depict the scene. The unnumbered pgs unfolds to a 31-foot-long tapestry. Color plates of 216 d as symbols for the brightly clad dancing girls. Exquisite full-color plates feature 216 winged beauties in flight.
