A very fine, as new copy in the plain paper dust jacket. Excellent source book, beautifully designed, on the impact of the maps of Enriquez Barroto/Bisente of the Gulf of Mexico on European cartography in the early eighteenth century. Part II examines the maps produced by French exploration in Louisiana, focusing on the work of a virtually unknown engineer, Valentine Devin. The cartographic contribution of Devin and his fellow mapmakers in the colony enabled France to dominate the North American map trade long after France yielded its claims on the continent. The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since. The Shop is now located just three blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco and is open six days a week. Parking facilities include ample street space and a parking garage close by.
