About This Item

Publication Consultants, 2009-05-01. Perfect Paperback. Like New. 8x5x0. Signed by Author. With a gift inscription by and signed by author. In this spell-bounding memoir fisheries biologist, Loren Flagg, recounts his journey from early Baystate upbringings to the Florida Everglades to Alaska's Cook Inlet and Kenai River. The path along the way is filled with hilarious tales as he and his fellow biologists tangle with logistics, plights and perils encountered in the world of fisheries biology. In the Everglades River of Grass Flagg dodges alligators, poisonous snakes, and a charging wild boar while attempting to conduct his work. Alaska beckons and soon Loren is fully engaged in the fish wars and oil battles of Cook Inlet. Kachemak Bay, the "Richest Bay in the World" is sold out to oil companies and Flagg plays a key role in Alaska s effort to"buy-back the leases. When the Exxon Valdez goes on the rocks in Prince William Sound, he is called upon by the Kenai Peninsula Borough to head up the response team for the Cook Inlet area. Following retirement Loren becomes a sport fishing guide on the world famous Kenai River where, in pursuit of giant king salmon, he is witness to more humorous and exciting events. Loren Flagg played a key role in the state s repurchase of the Kachemak Bay oil leases during the mid-1970s. In 1979 he began working for the Fisheries Rehabilitation, Enhancement and Development Division until his retirement from ADF&G in 1987. After retirement from the state he worked as a consultant to the commercial fisheries industry and as a sport fishing guide on the Kenai River. In April 1989 he was hired by the Kenai Peninsula Borough to head up the Cook Inlet area response to the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Following the oil spill he served on the congress established Cook Inlet Regional Citizen s Advisory Council as a member of the Prevention, Response, and Operations committee. He also served on the Kenai River Special Management Area Advisory Board in the early 1990s.
