Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1941. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Signed. SIGNED, without inscription, by Wallace Stegner on a non-publisher's tipped in page. The volume is bumped on the spine ends with some fraying on the crown, and has lost maybe a shade of spine lettering intensity. The pastedowns and endpapers are mildly toned and the text leaves lightly so.

Description:
New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1941. First edition. Hardcover. 214pp. Octavo [20.5 cm] Blue cloth with the title stamped in white ink on the backstrip. Very good minus. The extremities are just a bit rubbed and bumped. Minor dusting to the extremities, and there is a slight lean to the spine. The endsheets have several large stains, and there is a small loss from the top fore-edge of the front free endsheet. In a good only dust jacket. The jacket has been laminated, and there are large areas of bubbling in the lamination. The inside flaps are stained. The edges have several closed tears, backed with tape. The longest closed tear is 1 and 1/4" long. One of the harder Stegner titles to find in this nice condition. Only 2500 were printed, and less than 2000 sold. Stegner's agents wrote on April 14, 1948 (seven years after publication) that "Wally Stegner says, with regret, that he cannot find any immediate use for 515 sets of sheets for Fire and Ice. I am afraid, therefore, that you will have to…

Description:
New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1941. First edition, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by Wallace Stegner. 8vo, publisher’s original blue boards, lettered in white on the spine, in the original dustjacket. 214 pp. A near fine copy with only a hint of wear to the spine edges and with a jacket that is complete with inoffensive evidence of shelf wear to its edges. AN EXCELLENT COPY OF THIS RARE AND INSCRIBED STEGNER TITLE. The central figure in the novel is a fierce rebel, who is working his way through college, and who is more than ready to take arms against the injustice of the world he knows. He becomes desperately attracted to a girl of wealth and beauty who represents everything that he has forced himself to reject and disdain. The inscription is for Virginia, a close friend of Stegner and his "favorite reader". He signs very familiarly as "Wally". Stegner was a professor at Harvard when he wrote this book. Virginia was a friend at Harvard during the same time as Stegner's stint at…
