ABOUT THE AUTHOR: "Arch Merrill (August 5, 1894 - July 15, 1974) was a newspaper reporter for the Rochester, New York Democrat and Chronicle from 1923 to the late 1960s. He was a prolific writer, best known for his articles in the Sunday paper on history and folklore of the Genesse Valley and the Finger Lakes of upstate New York. He was sometimes called The Poet Laureate of Upstate New York. He authored a number of books, most of which are collections of his articles.
