Francis Bacon (1561-1626)was an important figure, having served as Lord Chancellor of England, and he is credited as being the father of empiricism, a pioneer of the scientific method. Bacon wrote a wide range of essays, which were first published in 1597, with French and Italian translations appearing during his lifetime. This edition includes essays on love, cunning, atheism, truth, cunning, riches, of a king, friendship, and marriage and single life.Contains two engraved title pages, the second bound opposite page 182.In a lovely full straight grain morocco binding. In a full straight grain morocco binding. Externally a trifle rubbed to edges and spine with some marks and scratches to the boards. Small split to the head of the front joint, hinges remain firm. Contains an ownership inscription to the front endpaper dated 1823. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean. Good
