In examining the English Novel (written 1925), the author's purpose has been "to trace tendencies, to estimate influences, and to hazard the sort of prophecy which is implied in the framing of general principles". (from Author's Note). He has chosen authors and books for their value as well as types. Generally, this deals with books written after 1900, although there are exceptions for specific reasons. So this is a survey for fiction contemporary to date of writing, 1924. 224 pages with index of authors mentioned. . 7.75 x 5.4 inches. Lincoln MacVeagh/The Dial Press, New York 1925.
