Castles were unknown in England until the middle of the eleventh century and was introduced by the Normans who established a highly feudal society. The castle was a private fortress and residence of a lord, his family and immediate following and marked the conquest of the land. 208 pages with 99 illustrations including many photographs. Book in very good+ condition with light tanning. Dust jacket in good+ condition price clipped with some small chips and knocks and some wear.
