Seattle: John O. Bye, 1959. Hardcover. Small 4to. Green cloth with black lettering, pictorial dust jacket. (4pp), 470pp, (4pp). Color pictorial endpapers. Near fine/very good. Jacket typically edgeworn, with tiny corner chips. A tight and quite attractive first edition of this rather homespun production, dubbed "Farewell to the Old" on jacket front panel -- a multi-generational historical fiction that begins with the Vikings and ends with ranching in the American West. Lengthy author inscription and signature on title page in blue ballpoint: "To Leonard H. Grosse, an / enthusiast when it comes to / authentic history of the old West / whether in historical works or in / historical fiction that rings true / May you enjoy delving into / the pot of gold 'At the End of the Rainbow' cordially yours / John O. (Johnnie) Bye / 2743 East 103rd. / Seattle 55, Wash. / Nov. 23, 1959.
