About This Item

Rough cut, tinge of toning, else appears as clean, unblemished, carefully tendered copy in green cloth covered, gold gilt, Near Very Good Boards.

John Galsworthy's famous sequence of nine novels, The Forsythe saga, spans almost fifty years, from the 1880s to the 1930s. Concluding the sequence is 'The end of the chapter' trilogy, which comprises Maid in waiting, Flowering wilderness and Over the river. Here Galsworthy writes about the lives and loves of the Cherre's, cousins of the Forsythe's. For centuries Cherrell sons have left Condaford Grange to serve the state as soldiers, clergymen and administrators, but the 1930a bring uncertainty in a world of changing values and unemployment. Galsworthy's grasp of political and social change and its effect on a family, as well as his incisive sense of character, make this a fine trilogy with which to end The Forsythe Saga.
