About This Item
El Dorado's Willie White. El Dorado, KS: The Butler County Historical Society (1st Printing, 1983). Staplebound softcover pamphlet, 17 pages. Like new condition.
William Allen White (February 10, 1868 – January 29, 1944) was an American newspaper editor, politician, author, and leader of the Progressive movement. Between 1896 and his death, White became a spokesman for middle America. At a 1937 banquet held in his honor by the Kansas Editorial Association, he was called "the most loved and most distinguished member" of the Kansas press.
On February 11, 1968, El Dorado (Kansas) shared in the William Allen White centennial celebration. For its part in the three-day observance of the famed Kansas editor, The Butler County Historical Society highlighted his early days as a boy growing up in El Dorado. Assigned the task of recalling the younger years of William Allen White was Charles E. Heilmann, who delivered this dissertation on "El Dorado's Willie White."
