Clean and tight in original red cloth binding with bright gilt lettering at front cover and spine; former owner's name neatly stamped on ffep and tp. Marbled page edges; silk place ribbons. All maps and plans present, first folding map at titlepage has splits at two sides of upper right panel, repaired with archival tape. All other maps and plans, including the panorama at p. 136, in very nice condition. Hinrichsen E51 Verlag Karl Baedeker, founded by Karl Baedeker in 1827, is a German publisher that pioneered worldwide travel guides. Usually referred to simply as "Baedekers", these excellent guidebooks contain important introductions to various regions of the world, along with specific information about routes and travel facilities; and historical descriptions of important buildings, sights, attractions and museums. For the convenience of travellers, they contain many reliable maps and town plans all bound in a convenient pocket format. .
