New York: East Village Other, Publisher, 1969. Tabloid. Good. Undated issue, presumably published around October 21, 1969. 24 pp. Black and white illustrations and comix throughout. Front cover a psychedelic image by Hetty, prominently featuring marijuana plants and mushrooms in the foreground, and referencing King Harvest (perhaps alluding to the song by the Band, who was discussed in this issue.)East Village Other was an underground newspaper from New York (duh), known for its early embrace of the counterculture and counterculture aesthetics, often using absurdist pieces to provide social commentary. As an early proponent of the underground comix movement, EVO published work by R. Crumb, Trina Robbins (neither in this issue) and others, as well as publishing a paper devoted to comix. This issue with a page devoted to the plight of the White Panther Party and John Sinclair. The article discusses his arrest, with the lower half of the page printing a letter he wrote to his wife while incarcerated. Usual articles on art, theater, etc. GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease present. Moderate toning. Paper a bit brittle. Mailing label present.
