First Edition; 8vo; pp. viii; 292 (last 3 pages blank); portrait frontispiece, 6 folding charts and maps; appendices; original red cloth, title in black on front and spine, spine and corners bumped with some wear, minor bumping to top edges of boards, spine a little faded, text clean a good copy. Includes pre British exploration. Large folding maps 60 x 50 cm of Van Diemen's Southern extremity by Capt Hayes in the Duke and Duchess in 1798, early map of Hobart, large ornately illustrated folding map of world including early outlines of Australia 50 x 40 cm, chart of Abel Tasman discoveries on Australian mainland including most of western coast, northern coast and north east of Queensland with some parts of southern areas. Bibliographical notes details maps, charts, manuscripts and printed works. appendices 1804 list of some Free Settlers, Marines, and employment convicts used in, copy of Tasman's map of Tasmania [1642], extract from Tasman's Journal, notes on aboriginals including dictionary and an English translation of Genesis, I, Some notes on Tribal divisions also stone implements baskets, canoes, implements and drawings.
