About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A. : Minotaur Books, 2006. First U.S. Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. As New/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. The impossible has happened: Jack Taylor is living clean and dating a mature woman. Rumour suggests he is even attending mass... The accidental deaths of two students appear random, tragic events, except that in each case a copy of a book by John Millington Synge is found beneath the body. Jack begins to believe that "The Dramatist", a calculating killer, is out there, enticing him to play. As the case twists and turns Jack's refuge, the city of Galway, now demands he sacrifice the only love he's maintained, and while Iraq burns, he seems a step away from the abyss. The fourth book in the Jack Taylor series, THE DRAMATIST, the fourth book in the Jack Taylor series, was the 2006 Shamus Award winner as Best Novel. As new, first edition, first printing, in as new, mylar-protected dust jacket. [Not remainder-marked or price-clipped] M90

Reviews

Although I had collected Ken Bruen's Jack Taylor series of Irish noir fiction for years, it wasn't until I watched the fine show on Netflix, "Jack Taylor," that I decided to give the novels a go. For the last two weeks I have been catching up and found that reading each one of them has been a sublime pleasure. I could not stop reading.

This is crime fiction of a high order. For almost twenty years now, the author has been delighting mystery fans with his stunning, poetic books about the shadowy side of life in Galway. With the tortured alcoholic soul of Jack Taylor he shows that even in the barrooms, "there are poets among us." Sometimes their voices can be mighty and fierce.

Gleefully profane, grimly hilarious, and joyfully blasphemous, the prose in this series is so unapologetically lyrical and right that it sometimes hurts to read on. Ken Bruen captures the pervasive brooding Irish landscape better than any author currently writing. From the first in the series, The Guards down to Purgatory, the latest, they had me hooked and I am so glad I got to finally read them.

We specialize in collectible, contemporary signed first editions. First edition means the first printing. (Later printings of the first edition are typically not printed on acid-free paper, and should be avoided by collectors.) Signatures are obtained by us in person. Inscribed books sold by us may contain a line, a phrase, or a sketch that the author has chosen to add. Our signed books are not dedicated to anybody in particular (not to your grandmother, your Aunt Gladys, your ex-lover or your former cellmate), except in the rare case of a presentation copy from an author to a noteworthy person. All our books are hardcover, unless the book is an Advance Reading Copy, Uncorrected Proof, or PBO. You can expect that the books we send you will be as described, and in a physical condition worthy of the author’s having signed them. We do not sell remainder-marked books, signed or otherwise
