This is a rare and wonderful collection of caricatures and humorous writings on various subcultures found in Victorian society. These include: a Cockney, an Auctioneer, a Money Lender, a Postman, a Hangman, a Ballad Singer, a Factory Child, and 12 other portraits. Each humorous essay is accompanied by fantastic caricatures and illustrations by Kenny Meadows, known for his illustrations in Punch magazine. Good Condition. Pictorial paper covered boards with black tapes spine. light cracking to front hinge. Binding is firm but there is cracking to gutter on page 192 causing gathering to be slightly loose. Pages and illustrations are lightly tanned. Minor pencil annotations to introduction margin. Boards have some notable self-wear with heavy bumping to edges casuing some loss to paper covered boards. Lettering plate has minor wear from age. General markings to boards.
