Lippincott Company - A Stokes Book. The book contains illustrations throughout by the author (including color end papers). The book comes with its original, un-clipped dust jacket (with the original $3.00 intact on the front flap).
Condition:
Clean front cover; the top-right corner of the spine and bottom-right corner of the back cover each have a very light stain; sharp corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The pages are clean with no stains or foxing; name written in pencil on the front end paper...no other writing found. The outer edge of pages 241-246 are crimped and have a 1/2" tear. Overall the book is in very good condition. The dust jacket is un-clipped (with the original $3.00 price intact on the front flap); small tears along the perimeter with notably larger tears at the top and bottom of the spine; soiling and a light stain on the back cover.

Synopsis
Doctor Dolittle and the Secret Lake is a Doctor Dolittle book written by Hugh Lofting. The book was published posthumously in 1948, 15 years after its predecessor. Fittingly, it is the longest book in the series, and the tone is the darkest; between the books was World War II, during which Lofting had published his anti-war poem Victory for the Slain. The book contains passages that almost border on being misanthropic with some very powerful passages concerning war and man’s inhumanity to man.
