Full Vellum with gold gilt to the front and edges. the boards are marked and the front has a green stain. internally very clean. some age related (slight) darkening to the page edges. the book is complete with 75 pages and 6 maps, most coloured and the map at the rear is folding. housed in a cloth covered solander box...Colonel Villiers Hatton was born on the 8th of October 1852 in London and studied at Eton. He joined the Grenadier Guards in 1870, becoming a Colonel by 1889 and served in the Nile expedition of 1898, where the British sought to reconquer Sudan and avenge the death of General Gordon.this was achieved at the battle of Omdurman. in this diary Hatton details his experiences before, during and after this battle. he died in 1914..
