About This Item

London: Cape, 1956. First edition, first printing. A very fine copy in publisher's original black cloth, with spine lettered in silver with diamond shapes embossed to front board and diamond stamped in silver to front board - Gilbert's Binding A. Microscopic spots to the page edge. Publisher's original first issue dust wrapper priced at '12s 6d net' as called for, with front blurb ending 'more hazardous than Moonraker? Yes'. A very fine example - the best to come to market in the last 10 years and absolutely fine. In custom made solander box. "Diamonds Are Forever," written by Ian Fleming, is the fourth novel in the James Bond series. Published in 1956, it had a significant impact on popular culture and the spy thriller genre. The novel introduced the iconic character, Tiffany Case, and explored themes of diamond smuggling and international espionage, setting the stage for many Bond films to come. Moreover, it continued to establish James Bond as a global literary and cinematic icon, filmed in 1971, shaping the image of the suave, sophisticated, and action-oriented secret agent. The book's enduring popularity contributed to the long-lasting success of the Bond franchise in both literature and film.

Synopsis

Ian Fleming (1908-1964), creator of the world's best-known secret agent, is the author of fourteen James Bond books. Born in London in 1908 and educated at Eton and Sandhurst, he became the Reuters Moscow correspondent in 1929. In the spring of 1939, Fleming went back to Moscow as a special correspondent for the London Times . In June of that same year, he joined Naval Intelligence and served throughout World War II, finally earning the rank of Commander, RNVSR (Sp.). Much of the James Bond material was drawn directly from Fleming's experiences as an intelligence officer. Later, Fleming became a consultant on foreign affairs for the London Sunday Times , by which time he had become far better known as the creator of James Bond.
