Vividly written and energetic sermon describing how difficult it is to redeem onself after sinning; and how one is much better off not to have sinned in the first place. Full calf with black spine label, xvi, (17)-272p. Covers worn and a bit dried around the edges, spine label chipped, front joint cracked but cover still well attached, quite clean pages with some age-toning and light scattered foxing, a couple of brief areas with fairly faint dampstaining, mainly confined to the margins, no noted chips or tears. Gift inscription dated 1867 on front free endpaper, old round sticker with "no. 451" on front pastedown. A sound copy, internally very good.. Hard Cover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

The author describes the natural state of the human mind as generally good but ignorant and prone to vice unless it is educated and enlightened to cultivate a sense of religion and love of truth (this in an incredibly simplified synopsis of the author's propositions). Full calf with gilt-lettered red spine label, raised spine bands, [4], 15, [37], 344 pages. Covers edgeworn and joints weak, front cover held by binder's cords, text block sound with no loosened pages, pages clean with some age-toning and a fairly faint dampstain to the lower right hand area through most of the first half of the book, affecting only the lower three lines of text at the most, no chips or tears. . Hard Cover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Sound copy in full contemporary speckled calf leather with raised spine bands, gilt decorated compartments, spine label absent, all edges speckled red, marbled endpapers, frontis engraving, engraved title page in red and black, [12], 430, [16] pages including index and errata. Covers rubbed with chipping to the spine head and upper corner, sound binding, transparent and reasonably faint dampstain throughout, pages otherwise generally clean with some light soil to the title page, old pencil notes on preliminary blank, no other markings..
