First edition of Devotion: An Epic Story Of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice, signed by the author, Adam Makos.. Octavo, xv, 443pp. White hardcover, title stamped in gilt on spine. Stated "first edition" on copyright page. Bumped top corner, otherwise a fine example. In the publisher's dust jacket, $28.00 retail price on the front flap, light shelf wear, a bright illustrations. Signed on the half title: "10-8-15 / In memory of the fallen. Adam Makos." Captain Thomas J. Hudner Jr. (1924-2017) was the recipient of the Medal of Honor for his attempts to save his wingman, Ensign Jesse L. Brown, the first African American naval aviator. Ensign Brown crashed his combat plane during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. Lt. Hudner intentionally crashed his aircraft nearby in an attempt to save his wingman. The heroic exploits of both airmen were memorialized in the 2022 film Devotion.
