Limited edition of five copies of which this is number three, Edition Magnifique of Chefs-d'Oeuvre du Roman Contemporain, Romanticists, bound for Adelia R. Carr. Octavo. 209 pages. Illustrated after Emond Rudaux, each plate in four states. Full chocolate levant morocco, triple ruled in gilt with stag's head crest and Latin motto in gilt to upper board, spine decorated in gilt with 5 raised spines. Front joint starting. Inlaid levant doublures in green and terra cotta, decorated in gilt and black. Cream silked free endpapers with gold design, binder's stamp to rear doublure. Internally generally clean and tight, all edges gilt; minor intermittent thumbsoiling, Housed in brown Japanese book cloth and morocco slipcase, minor edgewear. Near fine with bright, though somewhat amateur, fore-edge painting.
