About This Item
Swindon: Morris Bros., 1907. x, 529pp, [1]. Original publisher's red cloth, stamped in gilt and blind. Rubbed, spine dulled, a trifle cocked. Title page creased. The apparently unrecorded, presumed first edition of a comprehensive catalogue of the extensive holdings of the Great Western Railway Mechanics Institution, Swindon. The Locomotive Magazine (5th November, 1917, p.238), in reviewing the edition issued in 1917, stated: 'The entries under subject headings are complete, descriptive notes being added to show the scope character of the books, particularly in regard to those with engineering and railway work. The librarian Mr. Hildon Bagguley F.L.A., who has had large experience municipal libraries, has reorganized the Institution on public library lines, and anyone whether in the employ of G.W.R. or not, who has been elected and paid the subscription, may enjoy all the privileges of the Institute.' . First edition?. Quarto.

Terms of Sale
Antiquates Ltd
Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.
Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.
We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.
We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
