Dai shi xuan cong kan 待時軒叢刊 [Collectanea from the Study of Waiting for the Right Moment]

First edition of this lithographed collectanea with historical and philological studies. The collection contains studies by the brothers Luo Fuchang 羅福萇 (1895-1921) and Luo Fuyi (1905-81), who edited it. The brothers were the sons of Luo Zhenyu 羅振玉 (1866-1940), one of the most prominent intellectuals of the period, who published several books with at least one of the imprints used in our book. All but two studies in the collection concern the Tanguts (Western Xia) and Khitan (Liao), two states contemporaneous with the Chinese Song empire in the 10th to 13th centuries.


Luo Fuchang, who died young, had turned to the study of the Tangut script after studying several European languages. His work Xi Xia guoshu lüeshuo 西夏國書略說 [Cursory Discussion of the National Script of the Western Xia], written in 1921, is the second item included in our book. Luo Fuyi was a researcher affiliated with the Palace Museum and several learned societies.


Our collection comprises:



1. Song shi Xia guo zhuan ji zhu 宋史夏國傳集註 [Collected Glosses to the Treatise on the State of Xia in the "History of the Song"], by Luo Fuchang, with additions by Luo Fuyi.


2. Xi Xia guo shu lüe shuo, for which see above. This work reproduces several Tangut characters.


3. Xi Xia wen cun 西夏文存 [Remaining Literature from the Western Xia] with its supplement (wai pian 外篇), by Luo Fuyi.


4. Liao wen xu shi 遼文續拾 [Additional Literary Pieces from the Liao] with its supplement (bu yi 補遺) and "assembled titles" (huimu 彙目), by Luo Fuyi.


5. Xiao xue kao bu mu 小學考補目 [Supplementary Titles to the Examination of Philology], by Luo Fuyi. The title is given as Xiao xue kao mu lu 小學考目錄 [List of Books for the Examination of Philology] on the first page of the work itself.


6. Yin pu kao 印譜考 [Examination of Seal Catalogs], by Luo Fuyi.
