Photographs. 224 pages clean and tight. List of relevant books neatly written onto rear free paper. Major-General William Allan served throughout his regimental career with the 41st (The Welch) Regiment. As a young subaltern, he was amongst the first to arrive in Turkey at the commencement of the Crimean War in 1854. During the following twenty-one months, he served in Varna and fought at the battles of the Alma, Little Inkerman and Inkerman and throughout the siege of Sevastopol. He corresponded regularly with his family uT Scotland, providing fascinating details about his life at the front. He published these letters in 1897 in iffery limited edition, intended fefami1y use. The editor, W. Alister Williams, has supplemented Allan's letters with those from other officers of the regiment and provided a narrative background to the events described. A complete Crimean nominal roll of the officers, non-commissioned officers and men of the 41st Regiment has been compiled and appears as an appendix. .
