Wells' best known short story, a significant tale dealing with blindness. The first separate edition of this work, privately printed in New York at Christmas 1915.This tale was originally published in the April 1904 issue of 'The Strand Magazine', going on to be published in an anthology of Wells' stories in 1911, in a collection named 'The Country of the Blind and Other Stories'. 'The Country of the Blind' is one of Wells' best known short stories, in which a mountaineer discovers an isolated community who have been rendered blind by a disease. In the century since the story's first publication it has grown great significance in the field of literature dealing with blindness. Illustrated with a frontispiece by Alvin Langdon Coburn. In the original publisher's paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Loss to the backstrip, and some lifting to the head of the spine. Spine is a little sunned. Minor bumping to the extremities, resulting in a small amount of loss to the tail of the front board. Stamp to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
