First printing of this series of interviews with National Book Award-winning author Nelson Algren - with postcard from Algren to his friend, publisher William Targ. Nelson Algren was fascinated by the underbelly of society, a theme he returned to frequently in his works. In this revealing interviews, H. E. F. Donohue draws out Algren's personal experiences with success and the temptations that came with it. This copy includes a postcard from Algren to prominent publisher William Targ. Algren and Targ corresponded frequently, and Algren's archives at Ohio State and the Newberry Library contain numerous letters between the two. 8'' x 5.5''. Original teal cloth boards. Original price-clipped pictorial dust jacket, designed by Saul Lambert. Green topstain. xii, 334 pages. With postcard from Algren to Bill Targ, postmarked 1965, loosely laid in. Jacket with mild rubbing and a touch of edgewear, spine lightly sunned. Binding spine ends with a hint of bumping. Clean and tight.
