Philadelphia: National Publishing Company, 1868. Hardcover. First Edition. 6 x 9.5in. 654pp.; xii. 827pp. [4pp., ads.] 16 engraved plates. Publisher's pebbled cloth boards with blind-stamped seal and gilt lettering. Both volumes are in VERY GOOD condition showing marginal shelf rubbing of the extremities, brief former owner gift inscription of the period neatly on the second blank, former owner name of the period neatly at the title page of Vol. 1, the tissue guards of the plates are browned somewhat with slight associative browning on plates and/or pages, otherwise the bindings remain strong and tight, the text-block are exceptionally clean and unmarked, and the boards remain bright and distinct. A nicely maintained set. As pictured.
