London: George Routledge and Sons, 1864. Pictorial Boards. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. West, Tuffen. 1864 First edition. Size 12mo, 132 pages including index, plus 12 pages of plates, plate 1 bound at front as frontispiece the rest bound in at the rear. pictorial boards, front cover shows titles, a microscope and 2 inset illustrations of objects in the microscope, publisher's ads to the rear cover, end-papers printed with publisher's adverts also. Condition good plus, corners and edges rubbed, the paper is rubbed through to the cloth on the hinges and as such the hinges are weak, previous owner's inscription to the title page, else contents and plates are very clean, no foxing. Inscribed to the title page "Gertrude D'Estes East. London 9th Oct /79. Passed on to my dear Bobbie 6th March 1915" Contains upwards of 400 fine engravings on 12 plates. The engravings are finely executed and in very clean condition.
