In 1935 he was sent by the Church Missionary Society to Nigeria, where he worked for more than 30 years ? for 18 of them as Archdeacon successively of Warri and Onitsha ? and met and married his wife Jean. He loved Africa and Africa loved him. In 1965 he was awarded the O.B.E. for his services to education there. Forced by ill health to return to England in 1967, he served for five years as Vicar of a Fenland parish before retiring, first to Dorset, and finally to Salisbury, where he and Jean had a wide circle of friends. He died in 1997.* This is a NEAR FINE copy of the 1st./1st. with minimal shelf wear & slight label damage.*
