New York: Devin-Adair Company, 1941. First Edition. Good in decorated gray cloth covered boards with black and red text on the spine and with a black design and red text on the front board. The cloth is heavily worn and frayed at the head and heel of the spine and worn through at the lower edge of the front and rear boards. There is a prior owner's name on the front paste down. Without its issued dust jacket. This is Eric Sloane's first book which is quite scarce. 74 pages of text and illustrations followed by two un-numbered pages.

A fascinating book on meteorology based on cloud formations that was used by the US Air Corps in training flyers during World War II. Even more amazing is that it is signed three times and inscribed by Eric Sloan (1905-1985) twice to the recipients, George & Adele Tilyou. Third Printing. 74, [1] pp. Folio. Dust jacket ini two pieces, split at center with spine missing, now in mylar cover so that the jackets can be used. Blue cloth boads with some wear and scuffing, darkening at edges. Interior quite clean.

Black and red type on cover remain vibrant and legible. Gentle, superficial moisture mark along some edges mostly lower back. Inside, endpages are clean and free from previous owner marks. Title page is vibrant in blue. Small chip on opposite title page edge. Profusely illustrated with line drawings in that classic, kind of primitive Eric Sloane style. Hinges and binding firm. Nice copy of a collectible mid-20th century title.
