NY: Heinemann. Very Good in Very Good+ dust jacket. 1939. First Edition. Hardcover. Publisher's gilt-titled cloth, black Maugham device to front board. First UK edition; no date (1939). Dampstains to endpages. Firm binding, pages toned. The DJ in mylar has interior tape reinforcement at spine ends/points, some minor nicks, tiny hole to spine. Flap price 7/6. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 289 pages .
Synopsis
W. Somerset Maugham was born in Paris in 1874. He began to study medicine in London but quit to focus exclusively on writing. In 1926 he bought a house in Cap Ferrat, France, which was to become a meeting place for a number of writers, artists and politicians. He died in 1965.
