About This Item
Oxford; London: James Parker and Co., 1880. Leather. Very Good. 7" by 4.5". None. A collection of poems for the Sundays and feasts of the Christian liturgical year. Title page does not list author, as it was originally published anonymously. However, through the works success, its authorship soon became known and John Keble was appointed the Chair of Poetry at Oxford as a result of this text. John Keble was an English churchman and poet. He was one of the leaders in the Oxford movement and Keble College, Oxford was named after him. His Christian Year was met with an almost unparalleled acceptance. In a handsome leather binding with gilt detailing. In a full morocco binding with gilt stamping to the spine and board edges. Externally, smart with some light rubbing to joints. Gift inscriptions to verso of front endpaper, Alice M Smith from Un de Walton 1880. For my Darling Mother Feb 11/90. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean, with some minor age toned, due to paper used. The odd spot to the first and last few pages. Very Good
