Batsford,, [1962]. Sm. folio, Second Edition, with a coloured frontispiece, 38 fine coloured plates, 109 plates in monochrome and 73 illustrations in the text; original pictorial terracotta cloth, upper board blocked and lettered in gilt and green, gilt back, green endpapers, a near fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the whole housed in publisher's board slip-case with decorative printed band. The standard reference. Nott's classic study was first published in 1936 with an introduction by Cecil Harcourt-Smith; this edition reprints the original in its entirety save that here the introduction is given by the author's wife. This UK edition is far more difficult to find than its US counterpart published by Scribner. Scarce in this condition.
