True FIRST EDITION, First Printing from 1935 of one of the most beloved books by this Caldecott-award-winning husband-wife team of book writers/illustrators. The story, dedicate to Princesses Ragnhild & Astrid of Norway, takes place among the Lapps of northern Scandinavia, focusing on brother & sister, Lasse & Lise, & their adventures during the long dark days of winter & the polar nights. Unpaginated. Large hardcover 4to (8.25" x 12") has a blue cloth-wrapped spine with brightly colored decorative paper covering the remaining boards. Condition is just Good, downgraded due to crayon scribbles by former owner on some of the internal pictures & endpapers. Her name & date (1935) to recto of dedication page; crayon drawing on blank page at end, else unmarked. All pages intact with age-appropriate tanning to edges, Binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Rubbing to all external extremities, with cloth fraying at both ends of spine & paper loss to all corners, rubbed down to underlying boards. NO DJ (missing). But the story & pictures are as lovely as ever, despite the coloring. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
