Christine Margaret McGregor Little was born and educated in Hamilton, Ontario. After graduating from Mcmaster University, she became engaged to Robert Buist, an RAF pilot from Tranent, Scotland. She moved to Scotland in 1945 where she gained a post graduate degree from Edinburgh University.
