About This Item

London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1940 . Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. 7" by 4.5". None. An early impression of the tenth and final novel in H. C. McNeile's Bulldog Drummond series, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Bound in the publisher's original red cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. The seventh impression. First published in 1937. Written by Herman Cyril McNeile, a British soldier and author who often drew on his personal experiences in the trenches during the First World War. McNeile is most remembered for his Bulldog Drummond series, writing this collection under the pseudonym "Sapper". This novel was McNeile's final novel, published in January 1937, just before the author's death in August 1937. The series was then continued by Gerard Fairlie. This work features Hugh 'Bulldog' Drummond, a veteran from the First World War who tires of his mundane life and becomes an adventure-seeking detective. In this particular story, Drummond investigated the mysterious death of one of his colleagues, Jimmy Latimer. Bound in the publisher's original red cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light shelf wear and a touch of fading to the spine. Light offsetting to endpapers. The odd spot to fore edge. Dust wrapper is very good, with light edge wear and the odd closed tear, with tape repair to the reverse. A small amount of loss to the head of the spine and to the center of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and a touch age toned, as is usual with the type of paper used. Near Fine
