London: published by the author, 1871. perfect. Sehr gut. 8vo. (ca. 22 x 14 cm). Later sewed binding with wrappers of marbled paper / Spätere Broschur mit Marmorpapier-Umschlag, iv, 76 pages. Rare catalogue with autographic dedication on the title page: / Seltener Katalog mit eigenhändiger Widmung auf dem Titel: "Monsieur Jules Verreaux from his friend the author". - The famous french biologist/ornithologist Jules Verreaux flew to London, when german troops came close to Paris in 1870. He found temporary shelter at the home of the young R. B. Sharpe. "Als sich 1870 die deutschen Truppen der französischen Hauptstadt nähern, flieht er (Verreaux) nach London und findet Obdach bei dem jungen Bowdler Sharpe, der ihm nachgerühmt hat: "He possessed an immense knowledge of birds, probably greater than any man of his generation."" (Stresemann, Erwin: Die Entwicklung der Ornithologie von Aristoteles bis zur Gegenwart, S. 392). - Very good condition. Small holes of a former saddle stitch binding inside in the bend. Slight foxing on the inside of the wrappers, otherwise clean. Small handwritten remark in the upper margin of page 14. / Sehr guter Zustand. Kleine Löcher einer früheren Klammerheftung innen im Bug. Umschlagdeckel innen leicht braunfleckig, ansonsten sauber. Kleine handschriftliche Notiz im Kopfsteg von S. 14.
