About This Item

London England: Gerald Duckworth & Co Ltd, 1978. Hardback. First Edition. Castaway and Wrecked. Shelf wear to bottom edge of D/J. Slight crease to back D/J. Signed by the author on title page. The coaasts of Scilly and Cornwall have long been a hazard to ships, but it was not till the latter half of the nineteenth century that the moving details of shipwrecks and their aftermath were recorded for prosperity. This book brings together the superb photographs of the Gibson family of Scilly and Penzance, many of them previously unpublished, and contemporary newspaper accounts of the events depicted. It shows how,. before the advent of photo-journalism, both photographer and report, while working independently, were able in their different ways to evoke the same scenes with comparable power and insight. Even the most passive observer today cannot fail to feel the excitement and pathos of the dramatic events described. Illustrated. 64 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.). Signed by Author. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Tall Quarto. Hardback.
