About This Item
London: Chatto & Windus, 1968. First edition, first printing. Published by Chatto & Windus in London, 1968. This is a near fine copy. The dust wrapper is strikingly designed by Philip Youngman Carter (the author's husband) and has one small closed tear to the top edge on both panels. The rear panel is with mild handling marks. It has not been price clipped, showing the original 21s net price. The boards are clean and free from notable chips and marks, with one small band of toning at the tail. The text blocks are free from foxing and the internals free from inscriptions. Overall, this is a near fine copy. Her final book, finalised from her manuscript after her death (at her request) by her husband, Philip Youngman Carter. A young woman doctor is bequeathed a house on an Essex estuary - anonymous letters, ton-up tearaways, an angry farmer, a shifty solicitor, an aged poet - and Albert Campion.
