About This Item

London, England: Michael Joseph, 1975. This is the story of Captain Thomas Schofield-soldier of fortune-and of his adventures during the English Civil Wars. From the magnificent opening scene, until the last chapter when he realises that his wanderings are finally over, the action never falters and the interest never lags. With the Captain we see King Charles as a prisoner at Woburn, we meet Cromwell and his lieutenants and we are present at the terrible siege of Colchester. The author has used his immense knowledge of the period to create a background which is authentic down to the last detail, giving the book a remarkable flavour of dignity and reality. This book was the author's first novel, and has been out of print since it first appeared in 1942, when The Times Literary Supplement praised it so highly that it sold out on the day of publication. This re-issue makes it virtually a new book for the present generation of readers.(We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.) . First Thus. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Hardback.
