About This Item
New York: G.P. Putnam's Son, 1897 Second and best edition with map. xiii,283 pp. Tall octavo. Original gilt and multi colour stamped pictorial blue cloth. Gilt top edge others uncut. 25 photogravure plates with titled tissue guards (including frontispiece). 18 illustrations in text. Complete with the often missing folding map (at end) which was only tipped onto the rear pastedown. A very attractive clean copy. Neate W73. Wilcox (1869-1949) was an original member of the American Alpine Club who explored the Canadian Rockies in the 1890's from north of the Kicking Horse Pass south to Mt. Assiniboine. The folding map is the first detailed map of the Lake Louise area. The publisher or author must have forgotten to include the map in the first edition or the maps was just not ready at the time. 1897
