Angus and Robertson, Sydney -- London, 1948. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Dull orange coloured cloth boards with red coloured titles to the backstrip. Plain text dustwrapper with blue coloured background and dark blue decoration and titles to the front panel and backstrip. These two stories were originally published in "Such is Life" and they are stories of two outstanding liars -- Fred Falkland-Prichard ( the Buln-Buln or lyrebird) and Barefooted Bob -- The Brolga. It is a story about their contrasting styles of lying set in the Australian bush in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Softening and rubbing to the backstrip edges and rubbing to the book corners. Bumping and wear to the lower book edges. Browning of the text block edges and of the internal text. Browning to the endpapers and there is some scattering of blue ink to the front end pages. Previous owner's name has been scrubbed out, with black marker, on the free front end paper. Rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper corners and backstrip edges. The lower 1.5 " of the backstrip is missing. There is a 1.5 " tear to the top left-hand corner of the front dustwrapper panel. The top 3 inches of the front fold over creas has split. Sunning of the backstrip and to the fold over creases. There are small holes to the spine gutter edges and to the fold over creases.
