About This Item

New York: Henry Holt and Company. Fine in Fine dust jacket. 2008. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. 0805089934 . An unblemished first Printing of the First Edition housed in a mildly shelfworn dust-jacket that is Fine but also has a minor crease to the upper rear edge; Oscar Wilde's life is a story of books. He was born in 1854 in Dublin, Ireland, and as a child, he was fascinated by the printed word. From an early age, Wilde was drawn to books as a source of comfort and inspiration. He read widely, absorbing the works of writers such as Shakespeare and Byron. In 1891, Wilde published his first novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, which became a bestseller. The following year, he was arrested and convicted of homosexuality. Despite the persecution he endured, Wilde continued to write. His last book, De Profundis, was published posthumously in 1922. Built of Books is a loving tribute to one of the most famous authors in history and a celebration of the power of reading.; 8vo; 370 pages .
