London: King Penguin Books, 1939-59.. 76 volumes. 8vo. Publisher's illustrated boards, excepting K3-5 which are in wrappers as issued, 32 of the volumes with dust jackets - seven up to K48 and all after K52. Profusely illustrated throughout. Occasional, mostly light, wear to the covers, generally very good. A charming and colourful series of books giving brief studies in a myriad of different subjects and showcasing the talents of some celebrated British illustrators including Edward Bawden, Barbara Jones, Enid Marx and John Piper. The set includes 70 first editions, the rest being early reprints. The volumes were not initially published with dust jackets, the earliest first edition with one here being K22, dated 1946.
