About This Item

New York City, NY: Book Adventures, Inc. , 1964. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: Book Adventures, Inc. , 1964. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 232 pages. Landmark collection of photographs. One of the most beautiful photography books of the 20th century. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, of which there are many. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only that sold out shortly after publication. There is no ISBN. The First Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Philip Sutherland: Oversize-volume format. Blue linen cloth boards with gilt titles on spine, as issued. Photographs by various photographers. Curated with an Introduction by Georges St. Martin and Ronald C. Nelson. Printed in sheetfed gravure (on substance 90 lb. Clear Spring Offset) and color (on substance 100 lb. Sterling Litho-Gloss) archival stock papers in the United States to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is outstanding in every respect. In pictorial DJ with color reproduction of a boy on the cover and black titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents, in its true First Edition format, "The Boy: A Photographic Essay". Mad about the boy. The photography book cult classic (from the 1960's) that has never ever been surpassed. "Here is boyhood, that fleeting time of innocence and joy, of carefree abandon. Here are beautiful boys, exuberant, irrepressible boys, boys in the flower of youth. Evokes the vital spirit, the ephemeral magic of the Golden Years of boyhood. These striking pictures depict boys flexing their minds and their muscles, delighting in themselves, and in the world about them" (Georges St. Martin and Ronald C. Nelson). The photographs capture the poetry and sensuality of Herbert List and evoke the more explicit - and truly great - work of Will McBride. "You are a human boy, my young friend. A human boy. O so glorious to be a human boy!" (Charles Dickens). An absolute "must-have" title for photography book collectors. This title is a photography book cult classic. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing (1964) available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. It is a meticulous private collector's well-cared-for and carefully stored copy, the most beautiful we have ever seen. Please note: Copies available online have very serious flaws ("Very Good") or are in multiple subsequent printings. This copy has NO missing pages, NO sticky pages, is NOT soiled, stained, marked, creased, folded, or defaced in any way. A rare copy thus. 400 gravure and color plates. Some of the most brilliant photographers of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER WILL MCBRIDE TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).
