Elizabeth Clift Bacon Custer was a writer and public speaker, and the wife of Brevet Major General George Armstrong Custer, United States Army. She had her days of their marriage in rather closeness to him in spite of his many military campaigns in the American Civil War and afterwards posting on the Great Plains as a commanding officer in the United States Cavalry. She was left almost penniless after her husband died, she became a forthright advocate for his bequest through her famous books and discussions. Widely as an outcome of her years of campaigning for her late husband, her symbolic representation as the chivalrous hero in the triumph of Custer's Last Stand was a tenet of the history of America for about a hundred years after he died.
