This book contains some of the most powerful spells from all over the world, dating back to the beginnings of witchcraft. It's a scarce and incredible book full of... magic. I have no problem with some modern spell books; however, when you have spells that date back centuries and have survived the test of time by those who use them... I trust them a little bit more... There are many books on magic out there, and it can be somewhat confusing to decipher which is best for you. What I love about this book is that it doesn't focus on just one particular type of magic but filters thousands of years of spell-work from the most famous to the lesser-known grimoires into one book. The prices of these books have skyrocketed in recent years, and some can be seen listed over the $1,200 mark; they are also hard to find in good condition, especially considering they are well over half a century old. This particular book is in the most well-preserved condition I have ever encountered. I don't foresee them dropping in price due to scarcity and demand. As stated, this is the 1st edition 1st printing and not a later remake. It is a pricey book; however, there are many reasons for that... I would snag this one before it disappears...

There is simply no other book like it. This is different from the usual book full of history and tales. It is devoted entirely to the fantastic rituals hidden in the supernatural and occult lore. Now, you can possess fascinating information usually found only in museum manuscripts and priceless private collections.

The overall condition of this book is excellent, especially considering it is well over half a century in the making. It has some light shelf wear and age but is very clean from cover to cover. Remarkably, well-kept for a softcover.

"This book might well be termed a 'voyage into the unknown' dealing as it does with exotic, strange beliefs of various cultures and ages. The material contained herein has been taken from grimoires (the books of magic of the Middle Ages primarily) and other sources of legend and folklore. With such material, except in a few instances, it has been impossible to quote direct sources. No record was kept of the beginnings of a legend, and the best that can be properly done is to give credit to the country, age, and culture whence it seems to have sprung. Even this is difficult due to the intermarriage of many legends, so a precise original no longer exists. Greater interest than ever is manifested in the unusual, whatever its background. This book is an attempt to show a small cross-section of the odd and curious beliefs that man has indulged in since the days of the caveman. It is a matter of historical record that such legendary magic has been recorded in a written form of one sort or another and that they occupied the thoughts of millions of persons since the dawn of time. It matters not in such discourse as this why or how they came to be; it is not my purpose to venture any opinion of them. The belief in them existed, and that is sufficient justification for the work entailed in compiling such a collection. For clarity and easier reading, archaic language and spelling have been discarded except in instances where their lack would seem. To detract a rather unique and outlandish character of expression. Some of the material is available by word of mouth, especially regarding Voodoo in the United States. A great deal of credit has been given to Marie Laveau, and doubtlessly, she warranted it. She was the most famous of the New Orleans Voodoo queens. What she did far more than any of the others was to combine the Voodoo religion of the West Indies with a mixture of Southern folklore. Inadvertently, this resulted in a legendary native to this country. It is known that she was born in 1794, but the date of death is vague; probably in the early 1880s. It is probably due to her that the idea of a named oil arose, at least so the legends claim. The Voodoo belief was that the name was all. It does not appear that the composition of the oils was all-important, so certain formulas were followed in a general way. The name was the word of power as far as the believer was concerned, and in this usage, southern Voodoo followed the same path trod by every other culture that fed on a belief in supernatural magic. This magic has been defined as a charm or incantation on the one hand, and on the other, reference is made to the casting of it. The correct definition of this magic is to describe it as an alleged supernatural condition caused by natural means. The natural means being the mechanics of a ritual, possessing some unusual object or an object to which magical properties are attributed. To the person who believes in supernatural magic, the result of passive or active application of that belief constitutes them."
